YouthBuild: Building Homes and Friendships
Members of Tree Trust’s first three YouthBuild crews joined together this summer to continue Tree Trust’s partnership with the Minnesota Internship Charter School and Urban Homeworks.
YouthBuild Crew Featured in Star Tribune
The Star Tribune recently featured members of Tree Trust’s YouthBuild crew. Reporter Jeff Strickland spoke to Tree Trust YouthBuild crew members Marlon Williams, Patrick Quigley and Rashiek Jones. Working with Tree Trust’s partner, Urban Homeworks, they have been rebuilding an arson damaged home to create affordable housing.
Youth Conservation Corps Members Find Their Balance
Members of a seven person summer Youth Conservation Corps crew are building
a modular block edger at St. Paul's McMurray Field. The crew also plans
to control erosion at the site by creating an "amphitheatre" style seating
area that crew leader Kristen Davis says will anchor loose tree roots.
Tree Trust's Summer Youth Program Begins
Twenty-five Tree Trust Summer Youth crews picked up their tools Monday, June 23 and began work on major landscaping projects in parks and nature areas in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Washington, Dakota and suburban Hennepin Counties. This summer, 400 youth will work together to complete boardwalks, staircases and other landscaping projects in or near their own communities.
