Community Forestry
Community groups - from local businesses to Girl Scout troops - turn to us to facilitate planting events that showcase the positive impact humans can have on the environment. We help citizens put trees to work in our neighborhoods through community plantings and municipal tree distributions. By emphasizing correct planting techniques and continued maintenance, these events lay the groundwork for enlightened environmental stewardship.
And with your investment in Green Futures, improve the local environment by planting disease-resistant trees across the Twin Cities.
2009 Program Highlights
- Planted 711 trees and 287 shrubs in 7 Twin Cities neighborhoods, parks and shared outdoors areas
- 533 individuals volunteered a total of 1,842 hours of service
- Distributed 1,150 reduced-cost trees to homeowners in Minneapolis and St. Louis Park
- Created sustainable outdoor learning areas on the grounds of six Greater Minnesota and twin cities schools (see Learning with Trees program page for more details)
