Adult Community Support

Community Support Program

The Community Support Program (CSP) offers community service opportunities to MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program) participants. While clients do not receive wages, they do receive credit for their hours so they can continue to receive their MFIP benefits.

Through the program participants can:

  • gain valuable job skills and experience
  • get a positive reference for paid employment
  • continue to receive their support payments
  • find a job!

CSP works through the collaboration of Tree Trust staff, host sites, MFIP case managers and MFIP participants.

  1. Tree Trust staff locates non-profit and public agencies with service opportunities to be host sites for the CSP participants.
  2. MFIP case managers refer participants to Tree Trust to be matched with these host sites.
  3. Host sites provide meaningful community service activities, supervision and training for MFIP participants.
  4. MFIP participants provide service to the community at their host site and learn new skills.

Supported Work

TREE TRUST provides supported work opportunities to Hennepin County Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) participants, referred by their Employment Service Providers. Work ready individuals are offered temporary, subsidized, part-time employment in business, industry, and public service. Participants in the program have the ability to enhance their skills and gain work experience and training to better prepare them for financial independence and self-sufficiency.

Local employers benefit, too; they are seen to be proactive, inclusive, and engaging with the community. They are able to expand their pool of qualified entry-level job applicants, have greater access to job candidates, and gain additional staffing support. Employers also minimize their work force costs and liability. Tree Trust assumes responsibility for the entire hourly wage paid to participants. Tree Trust also coordinates payroll, issues paychecks, and assumes worker’s compensation liability in the event of an injury.
