Cities And Neighborhoods
Sustainable Tree Management
Tree Trust helps communities and neighborhoods:
- inventory, assess and determine the value of their tree resources
- develop tree protection policies and ordinances
- include trees and greening in their community planning
- connect to funding, training and technical assistance
- organize and implement tree planting projects
Our urban forestry staff works closely with the USDA Forest Service, the MN Department of Natural Resources, the University of Minnesota and International Society of Arboriculture to connect with and assist in current research on the costs and benefits of urban forests, tree care, pests and invasive species and protection trees during development.
Tree Trust Green Teams
Tree Trust supports grassroots planning and participation in community forestry projects in order to assure the projects' long-term sustainability. To do this we partner with community groups to organize local citizens, businesses, government and natural resource professionals into Green Teams. These teams form the core of neighborhood, school or community greening projects. Green Teams help:
- survey resources and problems
- develop plans
- recruit volunteers and donations
- maintain projects once they are completed
Tree Trust will help organize and facilitate Green Teams as they develop plans and projects, providing training and technical assistance to help them continue their work over the long-term.
Volunteer Tree Planting Assistance
Tree Trust's urban forestry staff also provides help for groups organizing tree planting projects including help with:
developing landscape plans for plantings- selecting and ordering appropriate trees and shrubs
- recruiting and training volunteers in proper planting and maintenance techniques
- preparing sites for planting
- tools and equipment on planting day
- planning for the ongoing maintenance of their new trees
